Begin by downloading the official Ledger Live application from Ledger.com/start. This is your command center for managing all cryptocurrency transactions. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, Ledger Live provides a unified interface to interact with your hardware wallet securely. Always download from the official website to avoid counterfeit software.
Carefully unbox your Ledger device and verify that all security seals are intact. Connect it to your computer using the provided USB cable. The device should display the Ledger logo when powered on. Never use a device if the packaging appears tampered with or if security seals are broken.
Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your device as new. Create a strong PIN code (4-8 digits) that you'll use to unlock your device. This PIN protects your hardware wallet from unauthorized physical access. Choose a PIN that's memorable but difficult for others to guess. Never share this PIN with anyone.
Your device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. Write these words down in order on the provided recovery sheet. This phrase is the master key to your wallet. Store it in a secure, offline location. Never take photos, screenshots, or store it digitally. Anyone with access to this phrase can control your funds.
Open Ledger Live and install cryptocurrency apps onto your device. Each cryptocurrency requires its own app (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). Once installed, you can receive, send, and manage your digital assets. Always verify transaction details on your device screen before confirming. Your Ledger ensures that what you see on screen is what gets signed.
